The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Soldier Center has an immediate vacancy for a Textile Technologist (or related field) to join our team of skilled scientists and engineers in Natick, Massachusetts. The incumbent will work on the Aerial Delivery Engineering Support Team (ADEST) within the Soldier Sustainment Directorate. This is a full-time Flexible Length Renewable Term appointment not to exceed 1 year, which may be extended or renewed indefinitely. This vacancy is being filled utilizing the Direct Hire Authority for Science and Technology Reinvention Laboratory (STRL) Mission Support.

Soldier Center participates in an alternative personnel system known as the Personnel Demonstration Project (PDP). The DB-02 pay band is equivalent to the GS- 5 step 1 to GS-11 step 10. The full performance level of the position is a DB-03, equivalent to the GS-12 step 1 to GS-14 step 10 grade level.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support aerial delivery equipment through application of expertise in textiles
- Inspect and investigates aerial delivery textile equipment, components, and materials to determine requirement compliance, performance, failure causes, and performance or process improvements.
- Engage with industry on procurements involving textiles, including discussion of performance requirements, Technical Data Package requirements, testing, etc.
- Work across government organizations, including Product Managers, test labs, science & technology teams, Logistics organizations, and user units to support aerial delivery equipment
- Coordinate and/or provide input for commercial and military test methods as well as cloth, webbing and cord specifications.
- Make data-driven decisions and report out findings and analysis to stakeholders. Excel, JMP and other statistical software use is beneficial
- Able to lift and move equipment weighing 50 lbs is critical (required to be able to lift and move a T-11 personnel parachute system)
