Job Description

The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Soldier Center has an opening for a Student Trainee (Information and Arts) for a summer internship on a full-time work schedule from May - August 2023.  This position is being advertised using Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for Post-Secondary Students and Recent Graduates (PSS/RG), and applicants may apply through Yello.  All applicants must upload their resume and transcript for consideration and complete a one-page profile form which lists their name, major, and school's name.  Post-secondary students may be non-competitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment within 120 days of successful completion of their academic program requirements.  Appointments of post-secondary students and recent graduates may be terminated at any time during the trial/probationary period in accordance with 5 CFR 316.304.
 
The DEVCOM Soldier Center is the science behind the Soldier – dedicated to delivering world-class research, development and systems engineering services to improve survivability on the battlefield. The Soldier Center's Support Programs Team is looking for a college student majoring in a non-STEM field such as (graphic design, library science, information technology,)  to work full-time during the summer.  The position is being filled as a Term appointment not to exceed 13 months and may be renewed.  
 
SERIES DEFINITION: 0099 – General Student Trainee Series

The student trainee series in each Occupational Group includes all trainee positions that involve periods of pertinent formal education and periods of employment in a Federal agency. The education and employment must be part of a formal student employment program. The level of education and experience completed by the student is a major consideration in establishing the level of on-the-job training and work assignments during periods of employment. This series definition applies to the XX99 student trainee series for each Occupational Group. Student trainee positions should be classified to the XX99 series for the appropriate Occupational Group (0099, 0199, 1599, etc.). All positions classified to a student trainee series should be titled Student Trainee followed by a parenthetical title consistent with the occupational field involved; for example: Student Trainee (Human Resources Management), Student Trainee (Psychology), Student Trainee (Civil Engineering).
 
This series is covered by STRL Demo Pay Plan DE.  Pay plan/band DE-01 covers positions that are equivalent to GS-01 through GS-04.
 
Qualification and eligibility requirements:
  • Must be currently enrolled in, and in good academic standing at a half-time or full-time program at an institution of higher education
  • Must be making satisfactory progress toward receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree
  • Must have completed at least one year of the program

    Potential for conversion to a permanent appointment: Term Appointment NTE 13 months, may be extended. Position may be converted to a term or permanent position upon graduation as a DE-1001-02 Visual Information Specialist.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Program Support Team:

  • Build an inventory of historical clothing and equipment.
  • Research and Document details of historical clothing and equipment.
  • Research and identify preservation approaches.
  • Research and identify display approaches.

SharePoint Online Migration:

  • Participate in the migration of files from legacy file share(s) to A365 Platform (e.g. SharePoint Online, Teams)
  • Apply taxonomy/metadata to migrated files.
  • Identify process improvements in data migration process.
  • Identify process improvements for maintainability and benefits of metadata.
  • Develop automated solutions to facilitate maintaining and using metadata.
  • Develop educational instruction for end users that can be delivered as asynchronous learning.

Application Development Team:

  • Test team for new apps developed.
  • Branding/themes & storing them outside of apps for easily swap in/out of new theme.
  • Develop Configuration Guides for Applications in Production (CAMs and DMGS).
  • Review and Document simple legacy apps to be used as a foundation for requirements documents.
  • Document processes in Visio.

Records Management:

  • Digitize research documents for upload to DTIC.
  • Sanitize records for disposal.
  • Initially coordinate responses to FOIA requests.
