LEAD VETERINARY MEDICAL OFFICER

Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Candidates with Engineers and Scientists with Advanced Degrees to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with The Chemical Biological Center (CBC). The Chemical Biological Center (CBC) is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Laboratory Personnel Demonstration Project (DEMO).

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Serve as coach, facilitator and/or negotiator in coordinating team initiatives and in consensus building activities among team members.
• Serve as Senior Attending Veterinarian (AV) and team lead for the animal research program within the Threat Agent Sciences division.
• Oversee general animal welfare and organizes animal care within the facility.
• Responsible for evaluating and reviewing the scientific merit and quality of study design for all animal use protocols submitted to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
• Advise IACUC on ongoing protocol reviews.
• Oversee general animal welfare and organizes animal care within the facility.
• Work with animal use Principal Investigator (PI) to develop novel surgical techniques in accordance with approved animal use protocols.
• Ensure that the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services.
