AvMC Student Trainee (Engineering) Summer Hire

Job Description

The US Army Combat Capability Development Command (DEVCOM) Aviation and Missile Center (AvMC) is looking to hire Student Trainees pursuing bachelors or advanced degrees in Scientific, Technical, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) courses of study at an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) institution of higher education on a temporary or term basis.     

These Student Trainees will be appointed to positions Not to Exceed (NTE) 30 September 2022, however, these appointments may be extended, provided the criteria for the student appointment continues to be met. 

Multiple positions may be filled.

DEVCOM AvMC as a Science and Technology Reinvention Laboratory (STRL) is utilizing the Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for STEM Students to fill these positions.

Students must be enrolled at least half time as defined by the academic institution. Students graduating in the Spring Semester of 2022 are not eligible.

Salary Range (this includes locality pay adjustments for HSV): $24,297-$36,116

Duties: As a Student Trainee, you will be performing the following duties under direct supervision; assignments will be developmental in nature and will allow the employee to gain knowledge in the engineering field. This will orient and expose the student to the mission and work of the AvMC and the benefits and conditions of Federal employment. You will perform performs duties which are designed to orient the employee in the application of academic theories and basic principles to perform engineering work.

Receives on-the-job instruction and training, designed to familiarize the incumbent with functions and operations of the organization, as well as provide experience in the practical application of basic engineering principles, techniques and concepts. Assists higher graded engineers, or other team member, in the design of various systems for the Agency. Applies basic engineering concepts to selected uncomplicated portions of such projects, performing tasks such as: drafting or minor detail design, applying basic formulas to routine calculations, preparing graphs, and searching technical reports to assist higher grade engineers.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment:

U.S. Citizenship

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Maintain at least a 3.0 overall GPA

Maintain enrollment at least half time as defined by the academic institution

Must sign a participant agreement

Must maintain eligibility and enrollment for the duration of the internship
