About the Position: The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) is a team of world-class scientists, engineers, analysts, technicians and support staff who are fully focused on empowering America's Soldiers today and in the future. The Deputy Director of the DEVCOM Pacific regional DEVCOM Forward Element (DFE) provides broadly defined technical, administrative and policy direction.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Identifies and assesses scientific and technological developments within Asian and Pacific Rim countries with potential applicability to Army research and development programs.
  • Serves as a scientist/engineer carrying out research and development activities involving pioneering work in material science and/or material engineering research.
  • Conceives, plans, and conducts investigations and research projects considered to be of primary importance in achieving new concepts, configurations and performance characteristics.
  • Identifies technological gaps which need to be bridged between imaginative and futuristic concepts and practical materials, hardware, and processes and/or the methods for closing such gaps.
  • Presents significant findings on materials engineering and/or materials science research and development efforts, theories, and technology to US customer base.
  • Serves on special task forces and committees to evaluate various proposals, lay out long-range plans, evaluate highly controversial issues, or investigate critical difficulties, failures and obstacles in important and extensive programs.
