The Army Futures Command (AFC) is hiring a Data Scientist, in Austin, Texas. This federal job offers a rewarding and exciting career with benefits.
This is a Developmental Position and may be filled at either grade level (GS-13 or GS-14) with the full performance level/target grade of the position, GS-14. If selected as a GS-13, incumbent may be noncompetitively promoted to the GS-14 after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management.
Duties:
- Serves as a Data Scientist in the Human Capital Directorate responsible for developing, constructing, testing and maintaining a data architecture.
- Conducts data convergence efforts for migration to cloud and edge computing.
- Attains new concepts, configurations, and performance characteristics which may result in establishing new theories.
- Uses statistical techniques to analyze research results and data in order to evaluate the application of computer programs.
- Determines the desired selection and acceptable output formatting based on network constraints.
- Recommends additions or modifications to existing hardware, software, and data architecture.
- Conducts statistical data analytics projects and/or studies in order to evaluate, design, and tabulate statistical sampling plans and analytical processes.
To qualify, you must meet the education AND experience requirements below:
Basic Requirement for Data Scientist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. (You MUST include transcripts with your application).
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
AND
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience for GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes: Communicating and interpreting statistical results to researchers to ensure that data is accurately reported; assisting with the evaluation of alternatives utilized to assess projected capabilities for future mission support; and utilizing statistical methodologies to fuse data sources derived from requirements and systems.
Specialized Experience for GS-14: One year of specialized experience which includes: Analyzing research results and data using statistical techniques to evaluate the application of computer programs in order to determine the desired selection, statistical computations, analyses, and output formatting based on network constraints; identifying technological gaps which need to be bridged between imaginative and futuristic concepts and practical materials, hardware, processes and methodologies for closing such gaps; and engaging with organizations, Industry and Academia to conduct stakeholder analysis to ensure analytics projects support end-user requirements.

Salary: $92,977 to $142,830 per year
