      The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Soldier Center has an immediate vacancy for a General Engineer (or related field) to join our team of skilled scientists and engineers in Natick, Massachusetts. Made up of a diverse workforce comprised of scientists, engineers, technologists, and equipment designers, the DEVCOM Soldier Center provides a wide range of capabilities to the Soldier, to include field feeding and life support systems, clothing, precision air drop systems, and ballistic, chemical, and laser-protection systems.

      The Biomechanics and Engineering Team at DEVCOM Soldier Center is seeking a highly motivated and experienced engineer! The team maximizes Soldier performance through applied biomechanics research. To do this, the team executes biomechanics research in support of current field operations, materiel acquisition, training, computer modeling and future force focused on understanding the biomechanical principles underlying Soldier and Squad mobility, physical performance, and lethality while encumbered with loads and/or protective clothing and equipment.

      DEVCOM Soldier Center is a Science and Technology Reinvention Laboratory (STRL) which utilizes a Personnel Management Demonstration Project (Demo). In this personnel system, the DB-03 pay band is equivalent to a GS-12 step 1 through a GS-14 step 10 grade level. Salary will be determined upon selection.

      This position is being filled utilizing the Direct Hire Authority appointment of qualified candidates possessing a bachelors or advanced degree to professional, scientific, and engineering positions within DEVCOM Soldier Center. This is a Term appointment not to exceed 2 years and may be extended to 6 years.

  • Job Duties/Responsibilities:
    • The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Biomechanics/Movement Science, Engineering, Exercise Physiology/Kinesiology (or related field), preferably with post-doc experience, though not required. Experience in human subjects’ research, and a publication record utilizing advances in data science/machine learning/artificial intelligence (AI) with biomechanics applications is needed. The incumbent will start their work on exoskeletons, to get a feel for the team, the lab, and the type of equipment we use and test. Experience with human subjects’ research is preferred, as the incumbent will become a credentialed Principal Investigator running existing studies and will write proposals for their own studies.
